I had a hard time focusing on the rest of the class tonight after seeing the DImDim session and realizing that this course has just saved me hours and hours of time on the phone with my dad!! If I can set up a DimDim account for myself and my dad, I can show him how to fix the computer problems that he is having by "Showing" him how I am fixing it on my computer. He can follow along by watching instead of trying to understand what I am saying. So excited about this. I came right home and tried to set up an account but I do not have administration rights on the school laptop to finish the installation so Dad will have to wait until tomorrow!
You should try to set up an account through DimDim. It is very simple to establish an account. Once I get clearance tomorrow I will finish the set up and try again. I will let you know how I have done later tomorrow night! Wish me luck!
Kim if you just want to show one other person your desktop you can use Skype. On the Skype "Call" drop down menu select "Share your Screen"
ReplyDeleteThe other partner in the call will be able to see your desktop and all of your cursor movements.
You need to use something like Dim Dim if you have more than one other person.
Thats great to know - I'll have to get my parents on to skype as I'm always trying to fix their computer problems - when I lived across the yard this wasn't a problem, but now the Atlantic is between us it's rather more tricky!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks awesome Kim!If you get access to DIM DIM at school will it only be available on the one computer? I am interested in seeing what the differences are between it and skype. Let me know what you find out!
ReplyDeleteOkay, where were you guys years ago?? I cannot believe that I can use SKYPE to share computer screens. Dad and I worked on this tonight and it is so easy!!! I am learing so much and an so excited about this course. Thanks so much for making me feel like I can be successful with technology.
